Waitomo is an impressive cave system that includes the Ruakuri Cave and the Aranui Cave. It is known for its population of glow worm species (found exclusively in New Zealand), its labyrinth of caves, sinkholes and underground rivers. You have to join an organized visit to see the caves. The easiest way to get to Waitomo Caves is to drive your own car. You can also take a bus from Auckland to Waitomo Caves on the Great Sights Sightseeing Network. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes
