A world-famous surfing spot

A magical beach

Waimea Bay is a famous destination on the North Shore of Oahu. It is well known for snorkeling, rock jumping, sea turtles, rock jumping and surfing. During the winter, Waimea Bay hosts the Eddie Aikau surf tournament where big wave surfers from all over the world meet to surf waves that are over 30 feet tall. It is considered a pilgrimage among many pro-surfers to surf this area. Oftentimes, the locals dig out the sand near the Waimea river mouth to create a huge standing wave which can be surfed for hours. It is really impressive to observe.
