The largest freshwater springs in New Zealand

The clearest water ever measured

The Te Waikoropupu Springs are naturally-occurring freshwater springs. They hold the world record of freshwater, with its clarity and horizontal visibility of 63 meters. The Springs are spiritually significant to the Māori people. According to folk-legend, the Springs provide water for healing. Naturally, it has been forbidden to swim, drink or even touch the water.

How to get there:

The best way to reach Te Waikoropupu Springs is by driving your own car. The road is majestic: you will pass through some of the most eye-catching landscapes along the way. From the parking lot, it is a 45 minute walk into the forest.
