Hidden gems of Peru’s highland region

Surrounded by snow capped mountains

The beautiful Humantay lake is situated at the bottom of an enormous glacier and surrounded by massive snowcapped mountains. It is well-known for its unbelievable turquoise water. The short hike to reach the lake takes approximately 2 hours round-trip and is rated moderate. The entrance fee to the trail is $3 per person.

How to get there:

From Cusco, you can hire a taxi or a rental car and go on your own to the national park where the hike to Humantay lake starts. You can also book a one day hiking tour from one of the many Cusco agencies.

  1. This lake is sooooo pretty! I saw it while hiking to the Machu Picchu, on Salkantay trek. There are some day trips as well, but if you like hiking I definitely recommend going on Salkantay trek to see this lake!
