Ella Rock

Nine Arch Bridge

In the heart of Sri Lanka's hill country lies Ella, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. With emerald-green tea plantations, mist-covered mountains, and cascading waterfalls, Ella beckons travelers to immerse themselves in its natural wonders. Ella is famous for it's scenic train ride from/to Kandy and the popular Nine Arch Bridge. Easily reachable by scooter from Ella city center. You should also do the trek called Little Adam's Peak, which is just a few kilometers away from Ella city center. It offers a panoramic view over the mountains. Visiting a tea factory was one of our highlight in Ella. It is free to do and it is super interesting to understand the process.

Best Time to Visit: Visit Ella between December and March for pleasant weather and clear views, while the monsoon season from April to September offers vibrant landscapes.

THE JOURNEY, NOT THE ARRIVAL, MATTERS

Ella is located in the Badulla District of Sri Lanka, within the central highlands.

How to get there:

Take a scenic train ride from Kandy or Colombo to Ella, offering breathtaking views. Alternatively, buses connect Ella with major cities, providing an affordable option for backpackers. But the train is your first option! It is an adventure itself.
