Challenging but rewarding

The tallest mountain in Panama

Laying at 3475 metres, Baru Volcano is an active stratovolcano and the tallest mountain of the country. The hike to reach the summit of Baru Volcano is challenging: it takes about 6-10 hours, round trip, depending on your fitness level for a total of 26 km. One of the highlights of this particular hike seeing both oceans on a clear day. It is also a popular spot for an overnight hike to admire the epic sunrise at the summit. Don't forget to bring lots of water, as well as your headlamp. The entrance fee to the volcano is $5 per person.

How to get there:

You can either take a collectivo or a taxi to reach the Volcan Baru Hiking Entrance. From Mamallena Hostel, there is a standard price of $7 per person for a taxi. To hike overnight, the taxi is definitely the best option.
