800-year-old Castle

Ashford Castle is a medieval castle that has been converted into a luxury hotel located in Cong, County Mayo, Ireland. The castle was first built in 1228 and has a rich history that includes serving as a royal residence, a fortress during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, and a private home for the Guinness family. Today, Ashford Castle is a five-star hotel that offers luxurious accommodations, fine dining, and a range of activities for guests. The hotel features 83 rooms and suites, many of which offer stunning views of the castle grounds and the surrounding countryside. Guests can also enjoy activities such as falconry, archery, horseback riding, fishing, and golf, as well as spa treatments and afternoon tea. The castle is set on 350 acres of manicured gardens and parkland, which includes a lake, a river, and a variety of wildlife. The grounds also feature a nine-hole golf course and a maze. The castle itself has been beautifully restored and features original details such as stone walls, fireplaces, and medieval architecture. Overall, Ashford Castle is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, luxury, and the natural beauty of Ireland.

How to get there:

Ashford Castle is located in County Mayo, Ireland. By bus: Bus Eireann operates a bus service from Dublin to Cong, which is the nearest town to Ashford Castle. From Cong, you can take a taxi or walk to the castle. By car: If you’re driving, you can take the N5 or the M6 to get to Ashford Castle. The journey from Dublin takes approximately 3.5 hours, and from Galway it takes approximately 1 hour.
