A central highlands beauty

One of the highlights of Ecuador

Quilotoa lagoon is a turquoisem clear-water magma chamber, situated in the Ecuadorian Andes. There is a route going to the lagoon which can by travelled by truck or bus from Zumbahua or Latacunga. You can take a motorboat tour across the lake or rent a kayak for some exploring of your own. You can swim in the water, but it remains exceedingly cold. The Quilotoa Loop is a common starting point for the Quilotoa Traverse: a scenic multi-day village-to-village hiking trip. There are numerous hostels in the immediate area offering services such as mules and guides for your expeditions.

  1. I highly recommend to do the whole 3 days trek to get to the Lagoon starting from Sigchos ! This was definitely my favorite trek in Ecuador.
