Iconic Buddhist monastery

A hidden gem

It is one of the only buddhist monasteries in Ladakh that can still only reached only by foot. The Phuktal Monastery was constructed in 12th Century. The Trek starts from the small town on Lchar (the end of the vehicle-authorized road) and Cha is midway to the Phuktal Monastery, where you can spend the night in homestays.

Located in the remote Lungnak Valley in south-eastern Zanskar, in the autonomous Himalayan region of Ladakh, in Northern India

How to get there:

You can get to a small town named Padum. From there drive, to Ichar where the trek to the monastery begins. It is only reachable only by foot.
