Major landmark of the Saxon Switzerland National Park

Famous sandstone bridge

The Bastei Bridge is a famous sandstone bridge in Saxon Switzerland National Park, Germany. It is a popular tourist destination and is located about 30 kilometers southeast of Dresden, near the Czech border. The bridge was first built in 1824 as a wooden bridge and was later reconstructed as a sandstone bridge in 1851-1852. The Bastei Bridge spans a deep ravine formed by the Elbe River and offers spectacular views of the surrounding rock formations, the Elbe River, and the forested landscape. The bridge is 76.5 meters long and is situated 194 meters above the river. In addition to the Bastei Bridge, there are several other attractions in the area, including the Bastei rock formation, the ruins of the medieval Felsenburg Neurathen fortress, and the Schwedenlöcher hiking trails. The Bastei Bridge and the surrounding area are a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and nature lovers.
