Attersee is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut and one of the deepest lakes in Austria, reaching depths of up to 169 meters (554 feet). The lake spans an area of approximately 46.3 square kilometers and is surrounded by stunning alpine scenery, including mountains and forests. The clear, turquoise waters of Attersee are renowned for their beauty and attract visitors from near and far. Attersee is a popular destination for various recreational activities, particularly water sports. Sailing, windsurfing, swimming, and fishing are among the activities enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. The lake's clean and transparent water also makes it a popular spot for diving enthusiasts. Several picturesque villages are situated along the shores of Attersee, including Attersee am Attersee, Unterach, and Steinbach am Attersee. These charming villages offer a mix of traditional Austrian architecture, cozy guesthouses, and lakeside promenades, providing a delightful atmosphere for visitors.

In addition to its natural beauty, Attersee has been a source of inspiration for numerous artists, including the famous Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. Klimt spent his summers in the region and captured the enchanting landscapes of Attersee in several of his paintings.

How to get there:

By Train: Attersee is well-connected by train. You can take a train to Attnang-Puchheim, which is the nearest major railway station to Attersee. From there, you can take a bus or a taxi to reach the lake. Bus services are available from Attnang-Puchheim to various towns around Attersee, such as Attersee am Attersee or Unterach. The bus journey takes approximately 30 minutes.

By Bus: If you prefer to travel by bus, there are direct bus services available from Salzburg and Vienna to Attersee. The journey times may vary depending on the route and traffic conditions.
