One of the most famous tales involves the medieval robber knight, Kuno von Aggstein, who allegedly imprisoned wealthy merchants and demanded hefty ransoms for their release. How to get there:

By Car: Aggstein Castle is located in the Wachau region of Lower Austria, approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Vienna. If you have a car, you can drive to the castle. The journey takes about an hour and a half from Vienna. You can use GPS or navigation apps to find the best route based on your starting location.

By Public Transportation: If you prefer public transportation, you can take a train or bus to reach Aggstein Castle. Here are the steps:

  • From Vienna: Take a train from Vienna to Melk, which is a town near Aggstein Castle. The train journey takes around one hour. Once you arrive in Melk, you can proceed to the next step.From Melk: From the Melk train station, you can take a taxi to Aggstein Castle, which is approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) away. Taxis are usually available at the train station, or you can pre-book one. Alternatively, you can inquire at the Melk train station about local bus services that may take you closer to the castle.
It’s important to note that public transportation options may vary, so it’s a good idea to check the schedules in advance and plan accordingly.
