Wonderland of sand

Highest sand dunes in North Africa

Merzouga is a small village located in the southeastern part of Morocco, near the border with Algeria. It is known for its impressive sand dunes, which are among the highest in North Africa, and its proximity to the Sahara desert. Visitors to Merzouga can experience a variety of activities, including camel treks into the desert, sandboarding, stargazing, and visits to nearby oases and Berber villages. The village is also home to several accommodations, ranging from simple guesthouses to luxury desert camps, where visitors can spend a night under the stars. One of the most popular times to visit Merzouga is during the annual Merzouga Desert Festival, which features music, dance, and other cultural events. The festival typically takes place in early March.
