Castle of San Felipe de Lara

UNESCO World Heritage Site

A National Historic Monument

Well known as “El Castillo de San Felipe", the castle was originally built in 1652 to ward off pirates. It sits right where Rio Dulce and Lake Izabal meet. The site offers iconic views, picnic areas, and the opportunity to swim in the lake. The site is opened from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm every day and the entrance fee is 15Q per person.

How to get there:

On the well-maintained road to Castillo de San Felipe, there are various touristic panels to Castillo de San Felipe. The trip takes approximately 15 mintues and is easily accessible by car.
