300-year-old building

UNESCO World Heritage site

Bryggen is a historic district in the city of Bergen, Norway. The area is located on the eastern side of the Vågen harbor and is known for its distinctive wooden buildings, many of which date back to the 18th century. Bryggen was once a center of the Hanseatic League's trading operations in Norway and was an important hub for the trade of fish, grain, and other goods. The area has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979 and is a popular tourist destination. Today, Bryggen is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and museums. Visitors can explore the narrow alleys and courtyards that wind between the colorful buildings, or take a guided tour to learn more about the area's history and culture. The Bryggens Museum, which is located in one of the oldest buildings on the wharf, is dedicated to preserving the heritage of Bryggen and the Hanseatic League.
