The dramatic Tiger Cave, situated in San Miguel, was once a religious site for the Mayan people. The cave got its name from the villagers after a dog chased a jaguar cub inside the cave a long time ago. Inside the cave, you can observe a collection of Mayan artifacts, such as pottery and other ceremonial items. Make sure to bring your headlamp!
It is an hour walk to Tiger Cave from San Miguel. The cave is located on a private land, therefore, it is possible that the gate is closed. However, it is possible to visit if the owner grants you permission to enter the cave. You can hire a local guide at Toledo Cave and Adventure Tours. The trail is well marked; you will follow a dry creek to a 10 foot waterfall, where you will see the entrance of the cave.
