Kjerag is a mountain is known for its steep cliffs, including the famous Kjeragbolten boulder, which is wedged in a crevasse in the mountain and has become a popular destination for hikers and tourists. Kjerag rises to a height of 1,084 meters above sea level and offers stunning views of the surrounding fjords and mountains. The mountain is a popular destination for hiking and climbing, and there are several trails that lead to the summit. The most popular trail is the Kjeragbolten hike, which takes approximately 5-6 hours round trip and requires a moderate level of fitness and hiking experience. The Kjeragbolten boulder is located at an elevation of 1,000 meters and is a 5-cubic-meter stone that is suspended in the air between two cliffs. It has become a popular spot for tourists to take photos, although it is not recommended for those with a fear of heights. To reach the Kjeragbolten, hikers must cross a steep and narrow trail, which can be challenging, but the reward is a unique and breathtaking view from the top.

How to get there:

To get to Kjerag, you will need to travel to the village of Lysebotn, which is located at the base of the mountain. Here are a few options for getting there:

  1. By Car: You can rent a car and drive to Lysebotn from Stavanger or another nearby city. The drive is approximately 2.5 hours from Stavanger and takes you through some beautiful scenic routes.
  2. By Bus: There is a daily bus service from Stavanger to Lysebotn that runs during the summer months (usually from late May to early September). The bus ride takes about 3.5 hours and offers some stunning views of the surrounding mountains and fjords.
  3. By Ferry: During the summer months, there is also a ferry service that runs from Stavanger to Lysebotn. The ferry ride takes about 2.5 hours and is a great way to see the fjords up close.

Once you reach Lysebotn, you can start your hike up to Kjerag.
