El Tazumal is an impressive Mayan archeological site situated in Chalchuapa. Its origins go back to around 1200 BC. The site offers a mostly intact pyramids, many dramatic ruins and a glimpse into what daily life was like for the Mayan population's way of living. While you are in the area, the sites of San Andres and Joya de Ceren are located within a short distance of each other, which is about a 30 minute drive from El Tazumal.
