Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is a nature reserve, which is made up of 400 square kilometres of protected forest, fauna and watersheds. The sanctuary is contains some spectacular attrations. This includes a plane wreck, scenic trails, beautiful tiger ferns, double-waterfalls, swimming ponds and much more. The wildlife sanctuary is also considered a reserve for the native jaguar, which are extremely rare to see because they are noctural creatures. You can book a night hike tour into the sanctuary to increase your chances of seeing this rare feline. The entrance fee to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is $5 USD per person.
The entrance of Cockscomb Basin is at the Maya Center Village and is situated approximately 20 miles from Dangriga. The best option to visit the sanctuary is to drive there yourself with a rental car, personal vehicule or by booking an organized tour. Note, that the road leading to the park is unpaved and unkempt, therefore, a 4WD is recommended
