A rocky headland

Where the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean meet

The Cape of Good Hope is a rocky headland on the southern coast of South Africa, located at the southwestern tip of the African continent. It is part of the Table Mountain National Park and is a popular tourist destination. The Cape of Good Hope was originally named the Cape of Storms by the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488, due to the treacherous weather conditions in the area. However, the name was changed to the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch East India Company in the 17th century, as the cape marked the halfway point on the sea route between Europe and the Far East, and was seen as a symbol of hope for sailors. Visitors to the Cape of Good Hope can take a scenic drive along the Cape Peninsula, enjoy hiking trails with stunning views, and visit the historic lighthouse at Cape Point, which has been warning ships of the rocky coastline since 1859.

How to get there:

The most convenient way to get to the Cape of Good Hope is by car. You can rent a car or hire a taxi from Cape Town and drive along the scenic coastal route, which takes approximately one and a half hours. There are also guided tours available that include transportation to and from the Cape of Good Hope.

Another option is to take public transportation, such as a bus or minivan taxi, to the nearby town of Simon’s Town, and then take a taxi or tour bus to the Cape of Good Hope.
