Blarney Castle is a medieval stronghold located near the town of Blarney in County Cork, Ireland. The castle was built in the 15th century by Cormac Laidir MacCarthy, the Lord of Muskerry, and it has since become a popular tourist attraction due to the Blarney Stone, which is believed to grant the gift of eloquence to those who kiss it. The Blarney Stone is located at the top of the castle's tower, and kissing it involves hanging upside down over a sheer drop while holding onto iron rails. According to legend, the stone was originally a gift from Robert the Bruce of Scotland to the MacCarthy family in recognition of their support in the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. In addition to the Blarney Stone, visitors to the castle can also explore its many other features, including the castle's dungeons, the Witch's Kitchen, and the Badger's Cave. The castle also boasts beautiful gardens and parkland, as well as a number of historic buildings and structures.
