To get to Besseggen, you can take a bus or drive to the town of Gjendesheim, which is located near the southern end of Lake Gjende. Gjendesheim is approximately a 4-hour drive from Oslo or a 2.5-hour drive from Trondheim.
If you prefer to take public transportation, there are daily bus services from Oslo and other major cities in Norway to Gjendesheim during the summer months. The bus ride takes around 6-8 hours depending on the departure location.
Once you arrive at Gjendesheim, you can start the hike to Besseggen. The trailhead is well marked and the start of the trail is located a short walk from the Gjendesheim tourist center. You can also take a ferry across Lake Gjende to Memurubu, which is another starting point for the hike. It is important to note that during the summer months, the parking lot at Gjendesheim can fill up quickly, so it is recommended to arrive early in the morning or take the bus to avoid parking difficulties.
