A pleasant and quiet place
Known as "the Emerald of America"
The iconic Alegría Lagoon is situated inside the crater of the active Tecapa Volcano. The emerald tone of the lagoon is due to the sulfur produced by the volcanic activity that surrounds it. You can walk around the lagoon on a pleasant loop trail that offers some scenic views of its surroundings. The entrance fee to the lagoon is $0.25 USD per person.

How to get there:
Alegria Lagoon is within walking distance from Algeria Town. The walk is a total of 5 km, roundtrip. You can also take a shuttle, a chicken bus or even hire a tour operator that includes transporation.
